Weekend in Fresno
Mar 14 2009 // Comments
The wife and I are heading out to Frenso this weekend. We hopped in N6763N and headed out. We flew into Fresno Chandler (KFCH) instead of heading to Frenso International (KFAT). I prefer smaller airports; they are usually less crowded, fuel is generally less expensive, and FBO's usually don't charge ramp fee's and usage fee's.
The weather was VFR and we had a head wind all the way there. The flight plan was 02:05, however turned out to be closer to 02:35. There was light chop heading over the Grape Vine and into Bakersfield, but then smoothed out from there to Fresno.
The return trip was also VFR with scattered clouds around 3000 ft. We decided to take an alternate route home because our Mode C was misbehaving on the way up. Our alternate route takes us to Bakersfield, then to Palmdale, around the bend and over Riverside, over Perris and onto Carlsbad.
Update
Check out the GPS tracks from the flight below: the orange is the route to FCH, and the blue is the return trip. We altered our return trip because of weather and equipment issues. Our transponder was acting up, the Mode C was intermittent, so I decided we'll stay away from the busy LAX traffic and go through the San Bernardino area instead.
